Construction of Brookhaven Elementary’s two-story classroom addition is “ahead of schedule,” according to project architect David Snider of Omni Associates.
“The crews got a lot of work done over winter break,” he told the Mon County Board of Education at its Jan. 24 meeting, “and they’ve worked several Saturdays to take advantage of the recent good weather.” Updating the board on the project’s progress, he added that relatively warm temperatures had allowed contractors to pour the structure’s on-grade concrete slab the week of Jan. 16 and to begin pouring concrete for its ICF (insulated concrete form) walls the week of Jan. 23. “Weather permitting, we anticipate that all the walls will be up and the steel floor and roof beams will be installed within the next few weeks. We could be roofing by the end of February,” he added. Following completion of the 16 class-room structure, reconfiguration of five existing classrooms, relocation of the media center and expansion of the kitchen and cafeteria in the school’s main building is anticipated to begin this summer.
